3M has announced its partnership with greenlight for girls (g4g), an international non-profit organisation, dedicated to inspiring girls of all ages and backgrounds to pursue opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
This partnership marks a significant commitment by 3M to advancing STEM education and opportunities for young women in the UK and Ireland throughout 2024 and beyond.
The partnership is set to kick off with a series of interactive STEM days, where students aged between 11-15 can connect with mentors, engage in hands-on activities and explore the exciting world of STEM careers. 3M’s STEM ambassadors work with the girls to show that scientists and engineers do not all spend their lives wearing white coats in laboratories. They will demonstrate that many interesting and rewarding careers are open to people with STEM qualifications, to motivate students to choose science, technology, engineering, and maths when the time comes to consider qualifications and careers.
Rachel Owen, brand and corporate communications head at 3M, comments: “We are proud to partner with g4g, as 3M has a rich tradition of inspiring students through STEM activities. This takes place at our major sites and through the encouragement of employee volunteering, especially through our STEM ambassador network. This partnership is more than just an investment in STEM; it's an investment in the future of innovation and a diverse future workforce.”
Known for its dynamic approach to engaging young minds, g4g will work closely with 3M to host events, workshops, and programmes designed to spark interest in STEM subjects. The organisation's founder, Melissa Rancourt, shared her vision for the collaboration: “Together with 3M, we aim to light a path for girls in the UK and Ireland to discover the endless possibilities within STEM fields. Our message is clear: every girl has the potential to achieve greatness in science and technology, and we're here to support that journey every step of the way.”
